Rural Hill Farm is not just a picturesque venue; it's steeped in history. Established in 1760, it is the oldest and largest public historic site in Mecklenburg County. The homestead of Major John and Violet (Wilson) Davidson, Rural Hill played a significant role in American history. Major John Davidson was an officer in the Revolutionary War and a signer of the Mecklenburg Declaration of Independence. This historic farm has been in the Davidson family for six generations and now serves as a center for the study of Scottish heritage, offering a variety of historical, agricultural, and environmental programs.

The Barn: The 4,000-square-foot barn, featuring vaulted ceilings and exposed wooden beams, is perfect for starting a new life together. It's a beautiful space that combines elegance with modern amenities.

This schoolhouse, dating back to the 1890s to early 1900s, is being restored to serve as an interpretive center, educating visitors about the educational system for young African American children during that era. Restoration is ongoing, supported by grants, donations, and volunteers.
